Another Derek Van Alstine cottage gem, this distinctive home, perched on the Cliffs of Depot Hill is a modern updated take on the classic storybook homes popular in Hollywood in the 1920’s and 30’s. While there is no official definition of what makes a storybook home, they all have whimsical and playful elements, often seemingly snatched out of a fairy tale or ancient village.
The owners have very strong opinions about the details and would often bring us sketches. With their ideas in hand, we set about turning their dreams into reality. This was a design and build collaboration that was a lot of fun. All of the custom elements, including the, scrolling details were made by hand, making this a truly unique place.
The home features radiant heat floors, caseless doors and copper flashings that add comfort to go with the old-world charm.
